Welcome
Welcome to a wonderful year at CMS! I am so excited to be your sixth grade social studies teacher! We are going to share in an exciting journey around the world learning about the earth's geography, following in the footsteps of the first humans, and tracing our roots back to the ancient civilizations of Sumer, Mesopotamia, Egypt, India, and China!
I am here to help you. Please contact me at [email protected] or stop in anytime and see me. Do not be afraid to ask for help! We can meet during advisory, team, or after school to catch up on work or revisit confusing class lessons. Please visit the homework page daily to keep up on your assignments. Check out the other links for help, class files, practice, or extra information!

Course Goals
By the end of each student's sixth grade year in social studies, he or she will:
- Become actively aware of the larger world, asking significant and relevant questions about the world and wrestling with big ideas and questions for which there may not be one right answer.
- Be able to think rationally, independently, and critically and express thought clearly, especially about the world’s interconnectivity and humanity’s roots to gather an understanding of who we are and where we may be going.
- Read deeply to independently gather, assess, and interpret information from a variety of sources, including maps and pictorial information.
- Use digital tools to explore, communicate, and collaborate with the world and learn from the rich and varied resources available.
- Respect and value the diverse ways people look, speak, think, and act within the immediate community and around the world.
- Develop the interpersonal and social skills needed to learn, work, and play with others harmoniously and confidently.
- Understand local, national, and global civic responsibilities and demonstrate active citizenship and stewardship through participation in endeavors that serve and benefit those larger communities.
- Assume responsibility for his or her own actions and be cognizant of and ready to accept obligations for the welfare of others.
- Develop his or her strengths, particular skills, talents, or interests and have an emerging understanding of his or her potential contributions to society and to personal fulfillment.
